Early M. Hardy Box Canyon State Park is home to golden eagles, marmots, and beautiful spring fed waters that turn blue and turquoise in the sun. The pristine water is released from the eleventh largest spring in the United States. Not only do the cliffs make the canyon a perfect perch for eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls, but a nearby fish mort pit also attracts birds of prey to this site. Visitors to Box Canyon can walk a trail near the canyon edge, or those who are sure-footed can hike the trail down into the canyon. Bird-watching is also a favorite at this location.
Visitors with pets and children, please beware that there is not a barrier between the trail and the canyon rim. Also, poison ivy is abundant in the canyon.
